The typically urban model SWMM5 is put to the challenge with the calibration of a rural watershed in Canada’s North. A case study is presented to showcase the calibration of a SWMM 5 model (using PCSWMM) of a watershed in the Yukon. Differences between calibration of summer and freshet runoff events are discussed, as well as limitations in the SWMM5 engine. The results show relative success in the calibration efforts and highlights areas for improvement in the SWMM5 engine. Benefits of additional processes to be included in the model are discussed in light of challenges in the spatial representation of such processes, in light of limited data available for calibration.
