EPANET and SWMM are two widely used open source programs for modeling the infrastructure that supplies drinking water to and removes storm and waste water from urban communities, respectively. In this talk Dr. Rossman, the primary developer of EPANET and lead re-developer of SWMM, will contrast the approaches taken by each program to modeling the hydraulic and water quality behavior of the piping systems they analyze, focusing on how these approaches are influenced by specific design and performance goals associated with each type of system.
