Keynote: The science and engineering behind EPA’s water modeling – Celebrating 50 years of progress and charting a path for the future

Regan Murray

ABSTRACT

In December 2020, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) celebrated 50 years of implementing its mission to protect human health and the environment. Dr. Regan Murray, the Director of EPA’s Water Infrastructure Division and a modeler herself, will share some of the Agency’s major achievements in science and engineering over the past five decades that led to the development of some of today’s most widely used water-related models and tools supporting the Clean Water Act and Safe Drinking Water Act. In addition, she will look to the future of select EPA water models, including SWMM, EPANET, and other tools.
