Low impact development, also known as LID, is an innovative stormwater management approach modeled after nature. This presentation will provide information and case studies on the use of sustainable standards to design and construct LID stormwater Best Management Practices (BMPs), sustainable collection system infrastructure, and green construction. Modeling requirements and various models that can be used to analyze and design LID measures will be described. The benefits of LID measures for effective stormwater management will be demonstrated using examples. Modeling results that quantify the LID benefits in terms of stormwater quantity and quality will be presented. The presentation will include an example of using EPA’s Storm Water Management Model (SWMM) to quantify the stormwater quantity and quality benefits of a rain garden / bioretention system.
