In support of Cameco Corporation’s SEU project and re-licensing of their Port Hope facility, AMEC completed a hydraulic assessment for a reach of the Ganaraska River. This project involved significant consultation with the local Conservation Authority and MNR for interpretation of Provincial regulations regarding floodplain definition and flood proofing issues in the context of the nuclear facility. Floodplain computations were completed using sophisticated 2D and traditional 1D hydraulic methodologies. Project deliverables included up-to-date
The interesting part of this project involved “non-traditional” 2D hydraulic modeling of the reach, coupled with “traditional” HEC-RAS modeling. The project also involved hydraulic calculations with ice cover and the determination of PMF water levels for flood proofing purposes. Cameco’s uranium processing facility is on the west shore of the study reach.
